What makes a criterion usable?
A criterion needs an identifiable source, defined test condition, measurable or observable result, responsible approver and treatment for an out-of-range result.
| Field | Question |
|---|---|
| Source | Which approved requirement controls? |
| Condition | What state or scenario applies? |
| Result | What is observed or measured? |
| Disposition | What happens if it is not met? |
| Approval | Who accepts the evidence? |
Who sets the criteria?
The responsible commissioning professional approves test sequences, acceptance criteria and results. Only the registered engineer on the job performs engineering sign-off.
ASHRAE Standard 202-2024 describes a commissioning framework for procedures and documentation.
